Job Title: TRAILS EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

Job Description: PRIMARY OPERATIONAL OBJECTIVES:
The Trails Equipment Operator (TEO) is a full-time, hourly position responsible for all trail machinery operations on the trail unit’s construction projects. The TEO’s primary responsibility is making sure that enough machine work happens on a daily basis to supply a day’s work for the hand finishing crew. This role assists the Trails Project Manager and Trails Crew Leader in keeping trail crews running as efficiently and safely as possible while ensuring the overall quality of each project.
Travel is frequent, typically requiring employee to be on the road five days per week. We are seeking an individual that demonstrates passion for trail building and the outdoors, and that is motivated to continue trail building education through conferences, reading, and certifications. This position starts immediately and ends around October 29th (as weather and work availability allows). 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Operation and routine daily inspections of equipment associated with trail jobs, including trail dozers and mini excavators
• Maintains proper correspondence with project partners throughout all stages of the job
• Ability to assess trail corridors both existing and future in the field on varied terrain and in varied climatic conditions
• The TEO may also assist the TPM with design & layout of trails on larger projects while implementing smaller project designs and reroutes with crews
• Occasional trail work may be required and encouraged to help motivate trail crews
• Performs other functions as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

• Be willing to travel (a lot) in Colorado, nationwide, and sometimes worldwide
• Minimum of four years’ mechanized trail building experience
• This job requires a uniform and the use of personal protective equipment as well as adherence to all safety rules and policies. This will include back country first aid and bear safety training
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in mini excavators and/or trail dozers
• Ability to interpret electronic, hard, and verbal plans through use of GPS, GIS, and other electronic tools
• Proven track record of managing a crew and facilitating a team-based environment
• Must have a hands-on, working knowledge of the type of work assigned – choosing and operating proper equipment (excavators, dozers, and chainsaw), and the ability to perform basic evaluation and repair equipment in the backcountry
• Creative, pro-active problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to inspire others to their full potential
• Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English
• Attendance at training sessions and/or seminars including annual PTBA Conference
• Proficient with computers and the Microsoft Office Suite
• Valid Colorado Driver’s License and approval by Timberline’s insurance company
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with staff at remote locations
• Must be highly adaptable to the kinds of change that comes along with working in an entrepreneurial environment
• Must pass post-offer background check consisting of employment history, personal/professional references, criminal record, and MVR
• Bilingual Spanish, highly desirable
• Must be willing to do things outside of your job description. All team members help and support other departments when necessary

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

• This job is an outdoor job which will require exposure to variable weather conditions, sometimes extreme
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Depending on the job, this position could require back-country camping, hiking for miles with a day pack, and dealing with all weather conditions
• This job, at a minimum, requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and traversing steep, loose uneven terrain
