Job Title: Basecamp Manager/Cook
Job Description: Specifically a “Base Camp Manager/Cook” who will manage a backcountry wilderness camp in Granite Chief Wilderness. Primarily will deal with base camp logistics/cooking/cleaning/ and coordination with logistical support team.
Rate of pay 24-26 hr
Hours per week- 40 hours
- Tuesday afternoon into Sunday morning
14-16 week assignment 2022, 2023, 2024
Access to Base Camp- From Palisades at Tahoe Ski Resort, hiking about 3 miles into backcountry to base camp.
Camp will consist of several wall tents/ shade structures/ large capacity water filtration systems/ multiple stoves/ tables/ kitchen wares. Multiple tent camps for trail crew members
Food will be packed in by mule teams weekly.
Cook would camp out and stay at base camp Tuesday afternoon into Sunday morning. Must have own camping gear.
Primary Duties-
- Feeding a 20 person trail crew who are working a remote trail construction project.
- Base Camp Manager would provide early breakfast (crew being fed leave camp at 0700), packed lunches, and large dinners for the crew who need well balanced nutritional food to support the calories needed for the trail work they are performing.
- Base Camp Manager will create food plan, ordering requests, communicate those needs to packers and other logistical support team members to ensure quality food coming in and trash/refuse being backhauled efficiently.
- Associated food preparation while crew is working during the day.
- Camp will be vacant during normal business hours. Base Camp Manager will oversee camp cleanliness and order when crew is gone for working hours.
- Base Camp Manager will need filter water through a large capacity filtration system throughout the day as to have large quantities of potable water
- There are no supervisory roles or responsibilities to the crew, just making sure they are well fed and hydrated
- Camp cleaning
- Must adhere to Leave no Trace principles
- Professional and Courteous at all times
