Job Title: Maine Trail Crew Team Leaders and Assistant Team Leaders
Job Description: Maine Trail Crew Leader and Assistant Leaders
Assistant Leaders will be responsible for assisting the Crew Leaders with the duties and responsibilities described below. They may have less experience, but generally should have the skills described for Crew Leaders.
Crew Leaders will lead a 4-person trail crew on foot, over rough terrain and for long distances while carrying equipment in all types of weather. They will train crew members in trail design, construction, reconstruction, maintenance and back country camping. The crew will build stone steps, waterbars and other erosion control structures. Crew leaders will ensure safe and sanitary conditions at campsites and worksites, transport crews safely, and respond appropriately to emergencies. They will follow the direction of supervisors with respect to duties, logistics, timetables and projects. Advanced training with stone cutting, stone work, rigging systems and other trail work will be provided as well as training with CPR/First aid and leadership.
Qualifications:
• One or more seasons of trail work experience in an outdoor leadership role
• Backcountry backpacking, camping and cooking experience.
• Good health, physical fitness and able to hike long distances in mountain terrain
• Leadership skills - able to take responsibility for all aspects of a trail crew, teach skills, motivate others, maintain a safe and enjoyable work environment under challenging conditions
• Good organization and record keeping skills
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record
• Able to work without direct supervision

All of Maine Appalachian Trail Club’s Trail Crew positions require compliance with a COVID-19 safety plan. Sorry, no pets allowed. All positions will camp at backcountry sites during work days and some gear will be provided. Food will be on your own. Trail Crew employees will enjoy day-off housing at our base camp, in Dover-Foxcroft, ME.
