Job Title: Maine Trail Crew Field Coordinator

Job Description: The Field Coordinator will be responsible for trail crews (two teams of 4 people) working on the Appalachian Trail at backcountry locations. Duties include organizing pre and post season logistics, teaching skills, leading crews in the field, making inventories of trail conditions, and submitting reports. The Field Coordinator will train and supervise crew members in trail design, construction, reconstruction, maintenance and backcountry camping. Trail work will involve: stone steps, waterbars, other erosion control structures and rigging systems. The Field Coordinator will ensure safe and sanitary conditions at campsites and worksites, transport crews, and respond to emergencies. CPR/First aid training will be provided.

Qualifications:  
• Two or more seasons working on New England trails
• Backcountry backpacking, camping and cooking experience 
• Good health, physical fitness and able to hike long distances in mountain terrain
• Experience building stone structures and using Griphoist equipment
• Experience in the field with GPS – will train if necessary
• Leadership skills - can provide oversight for two trail crews at multiple sites, teach skills, motivate others, maintain a safe and enjoyable work environment under challenging conditions, and monitor progress, quality and quantity of trail work
• Good organization and record keeping skills and with computers, Google Suite, Excel spreadsheets and MS Word
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record
• Able to work without direct supervision

All of Maine Appalachian Trail Club’s Trail Crew positions require compliance with a COVID-19 safety plan. Sorry, no pets allowed. The Trail Crew will camp at backcountry sites during work days and some gear will be provided. Food will be on your own. Trail Crew employees will enjoy day-off housing at our base camp, in Dover-Foxcroft, ME.
