Project Title: Portland Arch Nature Preserve Trail Structures

Project Solicitation Number (if any):

Project Description: Indiana DNR Division of Nature Preserves is interested in inviting vendors to bid on a trail project in Portland Arch Nature Preserve outside of the small town of Fountain, Indiana. The trail structure project involves replacing an existing four-part walkway and stair system traversing a steep side slope above a small stream at the base of a sandstone cliff.

The existing structures are deteriorating and we would like to replace with structures with more durable goods/materials, constructed with an eye towards aesthetics of the valley and low-maintenance durability of the trail system. Portland Arch structure details:
Section 1: 30’6” long, widths between 4’3” and 4’9”; some sagging w/ limited anchoring underneath, braced with long leverage supports running underneath short sandstone cliff overhang

Section 2: 22’8” long X 3” wide

Section 3: 7’5” long X 3” wide; gap between section 3 and stair case roughly 13.5 ft and should be connected to Section 4 due to loss of tread base

Section 4: Staircase landing 7’8” long, 4” wide; staircase 17’9” long w/ rise of approx. 11’.
