Project Title: Jesse Owens Straker Hiking Trail

Project Solicitation Number (if any): SRC0000014686

Project Description: The Straker Trail, once completed, will be nearly 30 miles of professionally designed and constructed natural surface hiking trail. The trail will connect to the Buckeye Trail west of Belle Valley in Noble County, pass through Muskingum County near The Wilds and join the Buckeye Trail again in Morgan County near the Dyes Run Trailhead. The intent, upon completion, is that this will be a non-motorized, all weather, natural surface hiking trail that creates a loop around the new Appalachian Hills and Jesse Owens State Park lands. Phase 1 project - The first section of trail is in southeast Muskingum county all of which is through previously disturbed mine lands that are now part of the park and wildlife areas. Approximately 6 miles of trail will be built during this first phase using funds privately donated to the ODNR by the Straker Foundation specifically for hiking trail in Muskingum County. Our consultant has provided design criteria, details/specifications, and centerline of the trail corridor with the assistance of Parks & Watercraft and Wildlife as part of the bid package.

The contract will be awarded to the highest scoring responsive and responsible bidder as determined by the State.
