Multi-Use Connector Trail in La Crosse WI
Project Title: Multi-Use Connector Trail in La Crosse WI
Project Description: The Outdoor Recreation Alliance of the 7 Rivers Region (“ORA Trails”) is seeking a Contractor to provide quotations for new trail construction for the Gateway 1.5 Connector Trail Project. The work site included in this project is located on Grandad Bluff within the Grandad Park Property, in the City of La Crosse, WI. The project area encompasses moderate-to-rugged terrain with well-drained side slopes of 15-70% and some low-slope areas of less than 10%. Elevation ranges from 700 to 1,200 feet with some nearby vertical surfaces. The trail is a half mile in length and passes through mostly urban forest land, hardwoods, and a considerable amount of invasive plant species.
The Gateway Phase 1.5 Connector Trail is a linear shared use trail that connects Compass Trail South to the East side of Grandad Bluff Park near the Alpine Inn. The design concept of the Gateway Phase 1.5 will be to provide a bidirectional shared use experience that is both sustainable and enjoyable for a broader spectrum of trail users. The purpose of this trail is to provide an “Off Road” link from the East end of Grandad Bluff Park to the Compass Trail South. There may be consideration for a future connection to the south on City Owned Land that may extend into Town of Shelby Land. The desired width of the trail tread will be 48” but still be considered “Single Track” by nature. The surface of the final trail tread will be composed of natural materials as currently found onsite. Some rock armoring and rock use will be included for drainage purposes. Due to the topography of the region the skill level of this trail is to be of a Beginner or “Green” level experience similar to the existing Compass Trail South. Modern trail design standards will be used throughout the planning and design of the Gateway Phase 1.5 Trail. Those standards can be found throughout the recent Gateway Trail project. Drainage and other environmental concerns will receive the highest priority throughout the design and construction of this project.
