Project Title: Bear Creek National Recreation Trail Reconstruction

Project Description: The U.S. Forest Service and National Forest Foundation (NFF) are working together to implement projects associated with the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA). A variety of trail maintenance and reconstruction projects proposed by the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison (GMUG) National Forests have been prioritized through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s list of deferred maintenance projects for GAOA funding. The NFF is seeking partners to implement reconstruction of the Bear Creek National Recreation Trail on the Ouray Ranger District. This project prioritizes the protection of natural resources, mitigation of safety hazards, and keeping trail users on the trail. The cope of work focuses on constructing new retaining walls, maintaining and restoring failed retaining walls, installing or hardening shallow stream ford and gully crossings, replacing the railings on pedestrian timber trail bridge, and improving drainage.
