Job Title: Assistant Trails Coordinator
Job Description: Duty Station and field season:
South Zone, Shoshone National Forest- Lander, Wyoming (Washakie and Wind River Ranger Districts).
Standard field season Early May to Early October--earlier and later work available dependent upon position, skill set, and budget (shortened season available for fall 2023 College Students). 6-month appointments maximized.
Work Schedule:
May-June- Five x 8-hour days, Monday through Friday, trainings and certifications (weekends off).
July-Oct- Eight x 10-hour day hitches, Tuesday through Tuesday (8 days on, 6 days off).
Available Positions:
GS-3 Trails Ranger ($15/hr), GS-4 Trails Ranger ($15/hr), GS-5 Trails Ranger ($17.31/hr), GS-6 Trails Ranger ($19.29/hr) – Temporary Seasonal Full-Time 1039 Appointments.
Backcountry Per Diem:
$37.95/day (2022 rates)
Housing:
Government housing available (bunkhouse style) in Sinks Canyon Middle Fork Guard Station. First come, first serve. $10.30/day (2022 rates)
We have a mix of Front Country and Back Country trail work opportunities. Overtime opportunities available depending on funding. Duties include clearing and brushing (log-out) trails, trail tread maintenance/construction (back slope, outslope, drainage, rock removal, microblasting), trail structure building (turnpikes, puncheons, retaining walls, bridges, signage), horse/mule packing,
mechanized trail building, campsite clean-up, visitor contacts, outfitter/guide inspections, hunter patrol, and on occasion fire suppression.
2022 Snapshot of work accomplished:
Backcountry trail log out in Wind River and Absaroka mountains, Willow Creek Ski Trails (mechanized),
North Country Climbing Trail (new-mechanized), Bears Ears Trail blasting, Ink Wells Trail rehabilitation, Downs Fork trail rehabilitation, Togwotee Pass bridge installation, Lower Jade Lake switchback realignment.
