Job Title: Cowboy Trail Temporary Park Superintendent 1

Location: Nebraska Cowboy Trail-Bassett, Nebraska

This is a temporary assignment expected to last until October 2022.

Examples of Work
Under the administrative direction of the Recreational Trails Manager and oversight of the NW Regional Superintendent, this position will administer all routine trail maintenance and monitoring along portions of Nebraska's longest State Recreational Trail – The Cowboy Trail.

The duty station for this position will be at NGPC Shop in Bassett, Nebraska. Duties include chipped rock surface trail maintenance (grading, packing, leveling, erosion control, etc.), mowing, noxious weed control, vegetation planting/seeding, minor bridge repair, sign replacement/repair, routine monitoring, and other duties as required.

The position may provide supervision to two temporary seasonal positions.



Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in park/recreation management or a related field; (wildlife, fisheries, natural resources sciences, public administration, history, cultural resource preservation or interpretation, travel and tourism, and planning) AND one year related experience. Related coursework/training and/or experience in park/recreation management or related field may substitute for the Bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

OTHER: Driver's license is required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of: the principals and techniques of trail maintenance; the operation and maintenance of trail maintenance equipment; noxious weed control techniques; natural resource management; basic carpentry skills; various computer programs that can support assigned duty requirements.

Skills in: Communicating with subordinate staff to make daily/weekly work assignments; listening and understanding others; prioritizing workloads; equipment (tractor, UTV, mower, skid loader, sprayers, chainsaws, etc.) operation and maintenance.

Ability to: Follow directions and assimilate information; plan, assign, supervise and evaluate the work of supervised staff; apply federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to trail operations; monitor and prioritize trail needs related to public safety and user demand; ability to work independently with little or no supervision; operate tablets, computer software and hardware.
