Job Title: Land Conservation Leaders 2020 (Denver)

Job Description: The Land Conservation Leaders program is a demanding, team-based , leadership experience. Land Conservation Leaders (LCLs) begin the program with two weeks of in-house training and four weeks of field training. They then transition to Assistant Crew Leader roles for the Summer of Service season. Based on skills developed, LCLs may serve as Crew Leaders, Co-Crew Leaders or remain Assistant Crew Leaders for the Fall Forestry season. LCLs lead conservation and environmental stewardship projects on public lands throughout the Denver metro area. Projects include trail construction and maintenance, fire mitigation, habitat restoration, fencing and park development.

Opportunities to Lead:
- Trainings: Fully participate in and provide leadership for educational activities, including environmental stewardship, civic engagement, healthy living, social justice and career readiness, for up to four hours a week in the field. 
- Projects: Serve as Assistant Crew Leaders on Summer of Service crews. Based on performance during the summer, may serve as Assistant Crew Leaders or Crew Leaders on Fall Forestry crews. Crews are comprised of eight to ten 18-24 year olds from diverse backgrounds.

Program Timeline:
This is a temporary position, from March 30, 2020 – November 13, 2020.

- 1,200 hour term of AmeriCorps service in a 7.5 month commitment.
- 40 hour weeks Monday-Friday, hours will vary by season and project.
- Some overnight trips will be required for trainings, conferences, and projects.


Requirements
- Between 19-24 years old.
- Must be eligible for enrollment in AmeriCorps as a US Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident.
- High School Diploma or equivalency required.
- Must be physically fit and capable of participating in intense physical labor including but not limited to: ability to lift 75 lbs., spend 8-10 hours a day in all weather conditions, hike 7 miles with a day-pack, conduct repetitive hand and arm motions, and maneuver in tight spaces, including bending and kneeling.
- Able to commit to the entire term of service, March 30-November 13, 2020.
- Valid driver license with insurable driving record preferred.
- Must complete a pre-service background check which includes fingerprinting.
- Pre-service drug screen required.
- Fully comply with agency policies and procedures.
- This position reports to the Program Coordinator: Land Conservation.


Benefits
- Biweekly stipend: Earn a living stipend of $800 every two weeks from March 30-August 28, 2020.
- Starting August 31, Corpsmembers will transition into one of the following roles:
-- Crew Leader* – living stipend of $1,080 every two weeks
-- Co-Crew Leader* – living stipend of $980 every two weeks
-- Assistant Crew Leader (same position) – living stipend of $800 every two weeks

AmeriCorps Education Award: Earn a scholarship of $4,266.50 upon successful completion of a 1,200 hour term of service. This award can be used to pay tuition or pay back qualifying student loans. Individuals have 7 years to use the award.
- Trainings: Wilderness First Aid/CPR, S-212 Wildland Fire Chainsaws certification (required for sawyers), Leave No TraceTM outdoor ethics, trail building and maintenance, pesticide application, facilitation and public speaking, peer mentoring, and extensive leadership development.
- Student loan forbearance: Possible through the National Service Trust on qualifying federal government student loans.
- Health Insurance: May be eligible for health insurance the 1st of the month after serving at MHYC for sixty days. Corpsmember will have a monthly share of the health insurance premium.
