The purpose of this RFP is to solicit proposals for the construction of a new section of the Velomont Trail. Currently, the Velomont Trail in this area is routed through a “double-track” road that is designated as a snowmobile trail in the winter, and Forest Service access road in the summer. The current route is steep and not particularly enjoyable for hikers and mountain bikers. The goal of the project is to build several bi-directional single track “alternative bypass routes” that detour around the steepest sections while preserving the existing double-track trail. In addition, the chosen contractor will make improvements to the existing double-track trail that will not be rerouted. This segment of trail is part of a larger network of trails that will connect the towns of Braintree, Randolph, Rochester, and Pittsfield, VT and beyond as part of the Velomont Trail.
