Additional Project Bid Information: Cibola County is seeking a qualified trail build team to construct a trail located within the USDA Forest Services Mt. Taylor Ranger District located southwest of Grants, NM in Cibola County. Cibola County in partnership with USFS is in receipt of Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grant monies for the project.

The Quartz Hill Trail System, located in the Zuni Mountains portion of the Mt. Taylor Ranger District is part of the greater Zuni Mountains Trail Project that seeks to add approximately 180 miles of non-motorized, multi-use trails to provide improved non-motorized opportunities and economic benefits to local communities. The Quartz Hill Trail System is comprised of approximately 31 miles of loops in an open ponderosa forest amongst rolling terrain dotted with volcanic and other geologic features. The primary targeted trail use of the system is mountain bike but will also ensure trails are designed and constructed to accommodate equestrian and hiker use.

Economic Vitality - The project supports economic development efforts to promote the quality of life for residents and outdoor recreational opportunities for guests. Trail construction should seek to “highlight” special local elements which raise the attractiveness of the Quartz Hill Trails System as a recreational destination.

Environmental Sustainability - The project will support the USDA Forest Service’s efforts of sustainable stewardship of public lands in the Zuni Mountains. The Quartz Hill project seeks to establish a trail system that is sustainable in nature, where impacts to natural and cultural resources are avoided and quality dispersed recreation opportunities are provided.
