Project Description: The purpose of this request for proposals is to solicit bids from contractors interested in designing and building approximately three miles of new mountain bike-optimized, two-directional trail on Schweitzer Mountain Properties (SMP) -owned property between the roundabout on Schweitzer Mountain Road (4,250 feet) and Spires Spur (5,250 feet) in Sandpoint, Idaho. The request includes an additional alternative for one-mile of new trail above the planned development, from Spires Spur (5,250 feet) to the start of Solar Ecstasy (5,685 feet), some of which will make use of the existing High Point trail corridor and berm turns.

Project funding is coming from Schweitzer Mountain Properties, which will be developing a housing subdivision in 2025 that will eliminate around a mile and a half of existing trail. A future access road will wipe out another 1+ miles of trail. The developer's goal is to have new, better trail designed and built before any existing trail is closed. The trails in question are part of the larger Little Sand Creek Watershed trail system, which includes around 18 miles of bike optimized trails between 6,400 feet (top of Schweitzer resort) and 2,600 feet (Lower Basin second switchback trailhead). The 3-4 miles included in this project form the only uphill/downhill link between the "Lower Basin" trails and the "Watershed Crest Trail." Our desire is to replace existing trails with even better bike-optimized singletrack trails.
