Job Title: Crew Member

Job Description: Trail Mix Crew Members work as part of a team of 3-4 Crew Members and 1 Crew Leader. Crew primarily work in partnership with the US Forest Service, State Parks and the City and Borough of Juneau. Crew Members perform manual labor and work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Crew Members are expected to learn and apply trail building skills, actively participate in training events, practice appropriate safety procedures in all tasks assigned, and use, maintain and repair hand and power tools as necessary. 

Crews work mostly in frontcountry settings. This means crews report to the shop each morning, drive together to their project site, hike to their work site if necessary, and return to the shop at the end of the day. Trail Mix does not provide housing. Projects are occasionally located in more remote locations where camping is required. Trail Mix provides gear and food on remote projects. Schedules may vary but generally are Monday through Thursday from 7am to 5pm. 

Workdays are 10-hour shifts with scheduled breaks throughout the day. Depending on project work and location, other schedule variations may be implemented. While the staff at Trail Mix work to provide consistency throughout the season, personal flexibility is expected and should be prepared for when entering the term as schedules, times, and work locations are subject to change per project needs.   

Trail Mix will provide uniform shirts, personal protective equipment, and transportation between shop and project sites. Initial training in trail building and maintenance techniques will be supplemented by more training in the field. Additional certification opportunities may be available. 

General qualifications:   
-Must be eligible to work in the United States.
-Must be able to lift 25 pounds consistently, work outside with exposure to inclement weather, and travel over varied terrain; all with reasonable accommodations.
-No previous trail crew or conservation experience is required to apply for this position. A general comfort and previous knowledge of working/living in an outdoor setting is helpful.

*Our seasons frequently run later, but we ask that crew are available through mid-September at a minimum. We may be able to provide scheduling flexibility to accommodate school or other schedule conflicts.

Compensation: $17/hour

Other benefits:  The season will begin with a Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) course taught by NOLS from April 18 - 21. Pro deals are also available.
