Job Title: Trails Crew Leader

Job Description: The Trails Crew Leader position is an exciting and adventurous opportunity to manage the crew responsible for building and maintaining trail projects. Featuring opportunities for travel in Colorado, the Trails Crew Leader is responsible for the execution of the project, management of the crew members, and reporting to the Trails Project Manager to ensure a timely and high-quality completed project. Timberline Landscaping seeks an individual that demonstrates passion for trail building and the outdoors, and that is willing to continue trail building education through conferences, reading, and obtaining certifications. This position starts on March 22nd and ends around October 29th (as weather and work availability allows). There is potential for winter work. 


RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for supervising crew members
• Collects and ensures proper timekeeping of field personnel
• Oversees daily operations in the field
• Trains, directs, and motivates crew to meet and exceed client expectations
• Provides direction and hands-on assistance to increase efficiency and effectively equip crew members
• Makes basic repairs to equipment in the backcountry 
• Ensures that employees assigned are trained in the duties delegated to them and strictly enforce safety in all aspects of operations
• Executes compliance with applicable laws concerning trail building, including stormwater management 
• Keeps up with paperwork to ensure proper documentation
• Regularly communicates with Trails Project Manager to receive instructions on the SOW. In addition, the Crew Leader must communicate all safety concerns, work concerns, and other pertinent information to the TPM
• Effectively manage emergency situations, following Timberline protocols and communication requirements
• Read, understand, and implement plans and schematics
• Maintain and/or operate tools and equipment, including hand tools, small power tools, and chainsaws
• Performs other functions as assigned 

REQUIREMENTS:
• Be willing to travel (a lot) in Colorado
• Must be willing to work away from home for weeks at a time
• This job requires a uniform and the use of personal protective equipment as well as adherence to all safety rules and policies. This will include backcountry first aid and bear safety training 
• Knowledge of machine-built trails
• Professional demeanor when interacting with clients and personnel
• Experience working in very physically and mentally demanding profession(s)
• Minimum of 2 years of experience building natural surface trails
• Ability to interpret electronic, hard, and verbal plans through use of GPS, GIS, and other electronic tools.
• Ability to use a clinometer 
• Creative, pro-active problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to inspire others
• Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English
• Experience driving trucks and trailers, experience on trail building equipment a plus
• Valid Colorado Driver’s License and approval by Timberline’s insurance company
• Must pass background check consisting of employment history, personal/professional references, MVR, and criminal record
• Leadership, interpersonal, and multi-tasking skills (including the handling of multiple priorities and deadlines)
• Effective organizational skills that includes the ability to self-manage work and manage the work of others
• Must be highly adaptable to the kinds of change that comes along with working in an entrepreneurial environment
• Self-starting initiative to pursue improvements and projects without substantial supervision
• Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:  
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (request help when lifting heavier things)
• Depending on the job, this position could require back-country camping, hiking for miles with a day pack, and dealing with all weather conditions
• This job, at a minimum, requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and control of heavy equipment

JOB SUMMARY

Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: 2 + years
Career Level: Non-manager (non-exempt), temporary position
Salary: $18 - $25 per hour, DOE. For job sites over one hour from home, Timberline will provide food and sometimes lodging as some jobs will require Crewmembers to live on the job site (when lodging is not available, Crewmembers will be expected to camp on site in a tent or other means when lodging is not provided). Depending on the job and arrangement, that lodging may range from staying in tents, RV, a house, etc. Evening and weekend travel to home is an option when realistic for the Crewmember.
Hours: 40 – 45 hours, weather/season dependent
