Job Description

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) SCA is America’s #1 conservation service organization seeks two experienced conservation leader to manage members for the Cuyahoga River Team for a 7 month period.

The SCA is fielding two crews, each with two members and one leader, to prevent and reduce invasive plants in the Cuyahoga Watershed, and to work with local partners to expand education and awareness of invasive plant prevention measures. The crews will employ a variety of abatements, including but not limited to: hand pulling, mechanized removal (saws, loppers, brush cutters), and herbicide application.

The SCA will provide crew housing in or around the Cleveland, OH area. The crew will travel to various locations to perform their work, last season the crews worked in 25 different parks in the area.

Program Dates: April 21, 2016 - November 27, 2016 (dates include training and pre/post season responsibilities)

Primary Responsibilities:
Crew Manager
-Ensure successful, quality, and timely work for a five person team.
-Guide crew dynamics and facilitate teamwork
-Actively manage project/member risk to maintain a safe work environment

Technical Advisor
-Assist in the technical skills training of corps members
-Manage the quality & technique of work performed
-Promote leadership development within team and evaluate success & potential

Partnership Representative
-Manage relationship with agency partner
-Work collaboratively with agency on program logistics
-Ensure successful and timely completion of work project

Program Administrator
-Communicate with SCA field support staff
-Complete required program reporting and documentation
-Manage budget and necessary purchasing for crew and project
-Ensure compliance with all SCA Risk Management policies & procedures

Qualifications:
-Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
-Must have ability to legally work in the US
-Minimum 2 years prior experience supervising young adults in an outdoor setting
-Must be able to attend mandatory Crew Leader training: (4/21/16-4/30/16)
-Current First Aid certification & CPR required by the start of the training
-Experience working with young adults (ages 18-25), teaching in an educational environment a plus
-Experience with invasive plant management, preferred i.e. landscaping, gardening, seed collection, invasive plant removal, and plant ID.
-Ability to hike up to 4 miles per day and perform manual, physical labor for up to 8 hours per day, exposed to the elements and must occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds or more
-Ability to work and live in the outdoors exposed to the elements for extended periods of time
-Valid driver’s license and MVR that meets SCA standards required
-Ability to meet SCA’s criminal background check standards

Compensation: $530-$560/week, paid biweekly with some seasonal benefits possible
