SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Director of Land Management the Trail Manager is responsible for day-to-day management of
operations and maintenance for the summer trail system, act as liaison to user groups, volunteer activities, protection and conservation,
and manage the coordination needed to plan, acquire, develop and maintain the summer trail system, project manager for operational
and capital improvements to trail system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Provide excellent customer service to customers, employees and business partners.
• Assist with hiring, orienting, training, directing and motivating all assigned staff and assists in overseeing work schedules in
accordance with Association policies.
• Maintain current knowledge, implement and enforce Association policies procedures rules and regulations.
• Evaluate trail conditions, report, and make recommendations to Director of Facilities and Risk Management on improvements,
modifications and new trails. Trail conditions include monitoring the system for soil erosion, slope stability, general trail
condition, vegetation management, safety issues and water quality issues.
• Maintain the Tahoe Donner Association Trail Master Plan. Survey and collect data to update Trails Master Plan where needed
which addresses improvements to fish and wildlife habitat, recreational uses and aesthetics.
• Inventory trails and trail conditions for planning, programming and future budgeting.
• Create and maintain engaging trails webpage with elements targeting all users. Collaborate with marketing team for other
collateral updates including but not limited to maps, program brochures, and web presence.
• Preparation of State and or Federal grant applications for trail improvement projects.
• Serve as a liaison between Forestry, Equestrian, Bike Works, Cross Country staff in planning, acquisition, development and
maintenance of the summer and winter trail system.
• Involve the community with the planning and maintenance of the trail system and field questions and concerns with trail
maintenance and use.
• Coordinate with Association members with properties near non-system trails to designate an alignment or alignments to be
incorporated into the trail system. Ensure appropriate dialog with stakeholders occurs prior to, during and after each project.
• Develop and establish engaging volunteer programs including but not limited to trail work days, adopt-a-trails, and others.
Facilitate and coordinate volunteer efforts as well as keep detailed records on work completed, safety/release elements,
participation, etc.
• Coordinate with LRWQCB, NCAQMD, ACE, Fish and Wildlife agencies, Town of Truckee and Nevada County, as well as any
other agencies to plan and construct trail projects.
• Prepare and or assist specialists in the preparation of permit documentation for appropriate agency approval on trail
maintenance and construction.
• Assist in development of a program to improve nature awareness through exploration, education, and engagement.
• Create an annual work summary of the year’s maintenance, promotional, and other trail-oriented activities to share with the
Board of Directors and the membership.
• Administer contracts, including packaging projects, writing RFP’s, field checks and close outs.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Required in addition to other requirements listed below, candidate/individual must have:
• *Proven ability to coordinate and execute successful stewardship and trails projects.
• *An expert level knowledge of trail maintenance and construction practices and project management;
• *Prior experience developing and submitting agency permit applications and successful implementation;
• *Minimum three seasons of managing trail maintenance program and/or trail construction;
• *Minimum three seasons of managing multiple staff members.
Desirable:
• *Prior experience working in resources and/or land management is desirable
• *Ability to develop and maintain strong, positive working relationships with stakeholders including homeowners, internal staff,
agency partners, etc.
• *Ability to positively and professionally represent Tahoe Donner Association in all meeting forums.
• *Skilled at public speaking and conflict resolution.
• Experience with mechanized trail building equipment and it’s field application
• Experience with GIS software utilization for project planning and mapping.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from an accredited four-year college or technical school in Land Management, Recreation Education,
Forestry, Biology or a related subject; AND three years related experience and/or training in forestry/land management, trail
planning/permitting/construction, natural resources; or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least three years of
experience working with volunteers.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Requires possession of valid Class C Driver License with a driving record meeting the minimum standards required by the Association
insurance carrier. Requires current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), AED, and First Aid certifications must be obtained within the
first month of work if not current. Current Wilderness First Responder, Emergency Medical Technician, Outdoor Emergency Car is
desired. Class A or B Driver License with a driving record meeting the minimum standards required by the Association insurance carrier
recommended. Chainsaw class “B” operator or willing to become certified.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental
regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and
respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry
and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical
instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Supervises a total of 4-5 employees in the Trails Department. Supervises Independent Contractors for specific contracted tasks and
projects. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities
include assistance with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance;
rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
