The SCA, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and The Houston Parks and Recreation (HPARD) are looking for a detail-oriented, highly motivated, and independent conservation team to join the 2021 Riparian Restoration Conservation Corps Team.



Our crew members don’t need any previous experience. As long as you have a passion for the outdoors, are interested in pursuing a career in the environment, and are a hard worker, you’ll be a great fit for our program! This is a seasonal position, $9/hr.



Join a team of 5 local young adults to conduct invasive species removal, shoreline restoration, water quality monitoring, trail work, and other activities. Team members will receive certifications and opportunities for future leadership and career opportunities in coastal habitat restoration.

This is a paid position with weekday hours (Mon-Thurs, 8A - 5P and Fri 8A - 230P). Food and housing are not included. Work will mostly be outdoors and will sometimes require heavy lifting and using equipment such as chainsaws. Team members will work under two team leaders that will serve as SCA’s supervisors. All team members are expected to be respectful, on-time, hard-working, and aware of conditions to ensure a safe working environment.

This team will design and carry out hands-on riparian restoration projects in partnership with TCEQ and SCA in Houston Parks and Recreation sites. Locations are all adjacent to Houston bayous.



Responsibilities can include:

Conducts prairie and riparian habitat restoration
Works in the HPARD greenhouse to propagate plants for habitat restoration. (To be confirmed)
Performs trash cleanup of riparian areas.
Conducts invasive species removal using mechanical and/or chemical methods.
Lead community outreach events to educate citizens about the value of native habitat.
Maintains, calibrates, and operates SCA technical equipment.
Performs related work as assigned.
This will be an opportunity to explore new skills and undertaking tasks that will impart lasting benefits to recreation sites. The program composition will consist of 1 Project leader 5 Conservation Team Members and will be managed by the SCA Houston Program Manager.



Preference will be given to local applicants that are interested in pursuing an environmental career.

- Wilderness First Aid
- CPR
- Chainsaw skills
- Herbicide use
- Water safety and kayak

Professional Development Opportunities
Team members will have the opportunity to meet and work alongside partners from numerous environmental agencies in coastal Alabama. Professional opportunities such as leadership development, risk management, resume building, and career advancement will also be available. The goal of this program is to place members in environmental careers at the end of the 6-month position.
