The SCA, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and The Houston Parks and Recreation (HPARD) are looking for a detail-oriented, highly motivated, and independent conservation team to join the 2021 Riparian Restoration Conservation Corps Team.

Program Dates: ­ 10/04/2021- 12/5/2021

Leader Dates: 9/27/2021- 12/12/2021

Leader Training Dates: ­ September 13th- September 24th (mandatory paid training)

Primary Responsibilities:
This team will design and carry out hands-on riparian restoration projects in partnership with TCEQ and SCA in Houston Parks and Recreation sites. Locations are all adjacent to Houston bayous.

Responsibilities can include:
Conducts prairie and riparian habitat restoration
Works in the HPARD greenhouse to propagate plants for habitat restoration. (To be confirmed)
Performs trash cleanup of riparian areas.
Conducts invasive species removal using mechanical and/or chemical methods.
Lead community outreach events to educate citizens about the value of native habitat.
Maintains, calibrates, and operates SCA technical equipment.
Performs related work as assigned.

This will be an opportunity to explore new skills and undertaking tasks that will impart lasting benefits to recreation sites. The program composition will consist of 1 Project leader 5 Conservation Team Members and will be managed by the SCA Houston Program Manager.

Specifically, the Crew Leader will:
Act as a Crew Supervisor by facilitating teamwork, managing field-based tasks, and guiding crew dynamics
Serve as an Advisor by training members in technical conservation work skills, mentoring personal and professional development, and teaching environmental stewardship
Act as a Project Manager by communicating with agency park partners, ensuring successful and timely completion of work projects, and upholding a positive representation of SCA
Perform tasks as a Program Administrator by organizing logistics, completing documentation, managing a budget, and communicating with SCA staff

Qualifications:
Experience working with youth or young adults [Enter preferred age range here], teaching or environmental education a plus
Experience with conservation work skills or related skills preferred – i.e., trail maintenance, trail construction, habitat restoration, chainsaw, carpentry, landscaping, and gardening
Ability to perform manual, physical labor for up to 8 hours per day, exposed to the elements, and must occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds or more
Current First Aid and CPR certification required by the start of training
Must be able to attend Crew Leader training: [dates here]
Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
Must have the ability to work in the US legally
Must have a valid driver’s license for 3+ years and MVR that meets SCA standards
Must be able to meet SCA’s criminal background check standards
Must have personal housing arrangements in the program city

Compensation: $650/week total salary, paid training
