Helen Gurley Brown and Conservation Leadership Corps Community Youth Crew Project Leader  

Training Dates:12/13/2022-12/17/2022 (paid mandatory training) 

Program Dates: 1/14/2023-5/13/2023 

Location (City and State): NY Metro Area 



Primary Responsibilities: 

This position will take place 1-2 weekends per month from January 2023 through May 2023. In order to be eligible, you must be able to participate in the program on the scheduled weekends. Weekends will consist of a service project at a local NYC park. You will be asked to meet onsite as transportation will not be provided. All the park locations will be easily accessible via public transportation.  



The focus of the meetings will be on:  
Environmental Education 
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion 
Environmental Justice 
Climate Change Awareness and Advocacy 
NYC Parks Natural Resource History  
NYC Regional Ecology Lessons 
Financial Literacy  
Professional Development Resume Writing, Career Planning and Preparedness)  

For any in-person events and activities all PPE will be provided. We will be following all governmental Covid-19 policies and procedures to maintain safety and wellbeing. 



Specifically, the Crew Leader will: 

Act as a Crew Supervisor, by facilitating teamwork, managing field-based tasks, and guiding crew dynamics 

Serve as an Advisor, by training members in technical conservation work skills, mentoring personal and professional development, and teaching environmental stewardship  

Act as a Project Manager, by communicating with agency park partners, ensuring successful and timely completion of work projects, and upholding a positive representation of SCA 

Perform tasks as a Program Administrator, by organizing logistics, completing documentation, managing a budget, and communicating with SCA staff 



Leader Qualifications: 

Experience working with youth or young adults (15-18 years of age), teaching or environmental education a plus 

Experience with conservation work skills or related skills preferred – i.e., trail maintenance, trail construction, habitat restoration, chainsaw, carpentry, landscaping, and gardening 

Ability to perform manual, physical labor for up to 8 hours per day, exposed to the elements, and must occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds or more 

16 hours WFA/CPR/First Aid with proof of certificate 

Must be able to attend Leader training: !2/13-12/17 

Must be a minimum of 21 years of age 

Must have the ability to legally work in the US 

Must have a valid driver’s license for 3+ years and MVR that meets SCA standards 

Must be able to meet SCA’s criminal background check standards 



Leader Benefits and Compensation: 

$21.75/hours for up to 18 hours monthly 

Paid Virtual Training $800.00 from 12/13-12/17 



Beginning on 1/18/22, all new SCA volunteer program participants are required to provide proof of up-to-date vaccination against COVID-19. Per CDC guidance, up to date vaccination now includes all recommended COVID-19 vaccines, including any booster dose(s) when indicated. For example, if someone has completed the primary series but is not yet indicated for a booster shot, they are considered up to date. Once a person is indicated for a booster (6 months after Pfizer or Moderna primary series, 2 months after J&J primary series), full and up-to-date vaccination includes the completed booster shot.
