Job Title: AL Conservation Corps- Coastal Crew Leader

Job Description: Conservation Begins Here. As an AL Conservation Corps - Coastal Crew Leader, you will work with a co-leader to guide and inspire a team of ten young adults from the Mobile, AL area. With funding from multiple sources, this crew works to improve inland habitats along the Alabama coast. The crew will be working on projects such as invasive species removal, habitat restoration, boardwalk repair, and trail work at various sites along coastal Alabama. Project monitoring and data collection will also be required throughout the season. Strong work skills (chainsaw, herbicide application, invasive plant removal, carpentry), experience with habitat monitoring (data collection, GPS, GIS), and experience leading teams are requirements for this position. Primary Responsibilities: Act as a Crew Leader and work closely with a co-leader to guide crew dynamics and facilitate teamwork for a team of eight young adults (18+); Function as a Technical Advisor assisting in training crew members to complete quality field work and project monitoring in a timely manner; Act as a Mentor as you assist crew members with Professional Development program requirements; Serve as a Partnership Representative managing relationships with agency partner to organize tasks and ensure successful completion of work projects; and Perform tasks as a Program Administrator by communicating with SCA program manager, completing SCA and grant documentation and requirements, and managing a budget. Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants that have: Strong conservation work skills, specifically related to invasive plant treatment, herbicide application, chainsaw safety and use, trail maintenance, boardwalk construction, and carpentry; Strong project monitoring and data collection skills, specifically using GIS/GPS; Experience managing teams of at-risk youth or young adults [18+] in an outdoor setting; Experience working independently and in a team setting to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner; and Effective communication and conflict resolution skills and/or training. Applicant must: Be a minimum of 21 years of age; Have ability to legally work in the US; Have a valid driver’s license and MVR that meets SCA standards required; Meet SCA’s criminal background check standards; Have the ability to perform manual, physical labor for up to 8 hours per day, exposed to the elements, and occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds or more; Be able to work every week day, 8A to 5P; and Attend mandatory Crew Leader training in Aug 2022 (dates TBD). Compensation: $675/week total salary Housing and food stipend are not included.
