Job Description: Trails Coordinator Job Position Number: 7011898 Minimum Salary: $ 1,962.28-$2,001.52 Salary may be commensurate of education and/or experience. Job Location/Shift: This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of State Parks, Grants, Recreation & Interpretation Program and is located at 1659 E. Elm Street, Jefferson City, MO. Must have the ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays and the occasional overnight stay. What you’ll do: -Provide technical assistance to park and site staff on all trail design, layout, construction and maintenance issues. -Management of trail inventory collection, including data points, documents, sign templates, GIS information, and data reports. -Provide oversight and guidance on Missouri State Parks Recreation Trails Program funding and project selection. -Provide guidelines for GIS collection, trail signage, wayfinding standards, and maintenance standards. -Coordinate with the Volunteer Coordinator, Outdoor Recreation Coordinator, and park and site managers on large- and small-scale trail volunteer workday events. -Provide oversight and maintenance of the trail tools and trail tool trailer for system-wide use. -Identify opportunities to partner with other agencies and groups to develop trail connectivity, recreation, health and education opportunities statewide. -Serve as department liaison to the Ozark Trail Council, Missouri Trail Alliance, and Missouri Trail -Summit Committee. -Provide trail-related training for Missouri State Parks staff, volunteers and partner agencies. -Collaborate with Outreach, Interpretation, Graphics and Public Information coordinators for all events and programs as needed. All you need for success: Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation, Parks Management, Leisure Studies, Natural Sciences, Education, Public Administration, Wildlife Management, Forestry or related field and two (2) to four (4) years of professional experience. Experience in trail design, trail planning or trail construction, park or historic site operation/maintenance, natural resource promotion/education, environmental education, or a closely related area may substitute for required education. Preferred Qualifications and Experience/Special Job Requirements -Expertise in sustainable trail design and construction. -Experience training and providing oversight to volunteers and/or seasonal staff. -Demonstrated ability to plan and carry out complex projects, including delegating, prioritizing and problem-solving. -Proficiency in operation of hand tools, small power tools, chainsaws, and small engine machines. -Proficiency in off-trail navigation including use of GPS and map/compass. -Ability to follow written and verbal instruction. -Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Software applications including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. -First Aid, CPR and AED certification will be required. -Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with coworkers and the public. -Ability to make work-related decisions in accordance with Department and Division policies and procedures with a minimum of supervision. -Ability to show independent initiative and enthusiasm for managing multiple projects at once. -Ability to display exemplary customer service and respond in a timely manner to all internal and external inquiries. -Ability to operate a vehicle and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license -Must be flexible and able to adapt to a fast-paced office environment. -Must be able to tolerate working in extreme weather conditions, including excessive heat, cold or rain. -Position requires working some evenings and weekends, and potentially overtime when necessary for site visits and projects. Position requires overnight travel for site visits and projects as necessary. -Position also requires heavy lifting and long periods of standing during the course of an event or program.
