Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of this position are to work independently in the field to identify and complete tasks that arise from regular inspections of the nature preserves, trailheads, trails, and recreational features on Land Trust of North Alabama and partner properties.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Monitor and maintain all recreation property primary and secondary trails, amenities and trailheads.
• Monitor and maintain all trail and recreation property signage
• Conduct trail development, trail maintenance, and trailhead monitoring and develop task objectives and prioritization coordinating management options with the Land Manager.
• Plan, coordinate, monitor, and conduct volunteer work events in partnership with the Volunteer Coordinator, partner projects, and team builds on Land Trust and partner trails.
• Coordinate and maintain the Land Trust Trail Care Partner Program, maintaining partner database, coordinating and conducting orientation work events as needed, coordinating a quarterly partner networking event, and coordinating partner communications and any follow up activities.
• Assist with Land Trust fundraising event preparation, setup and cleanup.
• Conduct and/or coordinate trail care equipment maintenance, repair and replacement, including Land Trust vehicles, trailers and off-road vehicles utilized in property management and recreation activities.
• Monitor/maintain an inventory of tools, equipment, supplies and signage related to property management.
• Install, monitor, and maintain trail infrastructure including pavilions, bridges, benches, information kiosks, boardwalks, and tool bins, etc.
• Safely prepare, use and store herbicides per industry guidelines
• Provide GPS data as needed in support of Land Trust GIS database
• Conduct and/or coordinate scouting projects on recreation properties and maintain database of projects.
• Assist, as needed, other Land Trust staff in record retention, social media support and the maintenance of the Land Trust office
• Support the Land Stewards as needed in the maintenance of trailheads and secondary trail entrances
• Assist the Land Manager with property management tasks on non-recreational properties as needed
• Support additional tasks as identified and assigned by the Land Manager

Job Qualifications:

• Ability to work independently and with a team
• Ability to consistently lift heavy objects of at least fifty pounds weight, hike long distances and work in a variety of terrains and weather conditions
• Basic mechanical abilities and familiarity using and maintaining battery, gas, and hand operated tools and equipment.
• Ability to work with earth moving equipment, mowers, and tractors preferred
• Ability to read and interpret surveys, assessors’ maps, and topographical maps
• Certifications in wilderness first aid, chain saw operations, and trail building preferred
• A reliable vehicle with a valid Alabama State driver’s license and verifiable proof of auto insurance
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
