Job Title: New Hampshire Corps Project Leader
Job Description: The Student Conservation Association (SCA), America’s #1 conservation service organization seeks an experienced, quality oriented outdoor leader to supervise a Corps of 20 members. Corps members are responsible for completing habitat restoration, resource protection, and trail projects throughout New Hampshire. SCA NH Corps teams will use traditional trail skills, restoration techniques, carpentry skills, and physical labor to complete an array of projects. Typical projects include, trail construction & maintenance, carpentry, bridge construction, invasive vegetation removal, and habitat restoration. The program works in partnership with the New Hampshire State Parks and the Corporation for National and Community Service (AmeriCorps).
Program Dates: April 17, 2017 – November 3, 2017
Primary Responsibilities:
Crew Manager
-Assist Conservation Coordinator in overseeing 3 conservation crews
--Manage conservation projects, work outcomes, and crew dynamics
-Facilitate team operations: food planning, tools & equipment, vehicles, work site management, basecamp operations
-Actively manage project/member risk by maintaining a safe work environment
-Regular travel to work locations to support projects and camp with teams
Technical Advisor
-Supervise and assist with work skills training for corps
-Manage the quality & technique of trail work outcomes
-Actively manage risk in accordance with SCA protocols to maintain a safe work environment for program participants
-Promote leadership development of members and evaluate success & potential
Partnership Representative
-Manage relationship and communication with agency partners
-Work collaboratively with agencies on project logistics
-Ensure successful and timely completion of work projects
Program Administrator
-Assist Coordinator to complete required program reporting and documentation
-Assist Coordinator in budget management and reconciliation
-Ensure compliance with all SCA Risk Management policies & procedures
-Represent SCA in a positive and professional manner
Qualifications:
-Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
-Must have ability to legally work in the US
-Previous trail construction experience and knowledge and ability to perform trail construction and maintenance work in both wilderness and non-wilderness settings
-Prior experience in supervising young adults in an outdoor setting, backcountry setting
-Wilderness First Responder/CPR certification
-Excellent communication and leadership skills, strong work ethic are required
-Self-starter ability to work independently, and as part of a team
-Able to carry heavy loads up to 50 pounds and be able to work in outdoor environment exposed to the elements including camping and hiking for extended periods of time. Up to 5-10 days per hitch
-Ability to access remote trail work locations and be able to travel over rough, steep, and rocky terrain
-Ability to meet SCA’s criminal background check (non-vulnerable population) standards
-Valid driver’s license and MVR that meets SCA standards required
-Must have personal vehicle, mileage reimbursement available for work-related travel
-Have working knowledge of safely operating power and hand-tools
-Chainsaw experience and certification preferred
-Rigging/Grip hoist experience preferred
-Carpentry experience preferred
