Kingdom Trail Association (KT) is a nonprofit trail organization based in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont that provides recreation and education opportunities for local residents and visitors while working to conserve natural resources and create economic stimulation. KT delivers its mission by partnering with landowners, local businesses, government agencies and other non-profit organizations to create and manage inclusive outdoor recreation opportunities via a non-motorized trail network that is accessible to people of all abilities and identities through membership.

Job Summary
The Signage & Mapping Manager’s primary responsibilities are:
Developing appropriate trail signage such as informational, event, directional, marketing, etc. and ensure all signage is in place, visible, and accurate throughout the system. Create maps compiled of various data of the trail system as defined by the needs of KTA. Assistance in the management with the following: maintaining trail maintenance standards; trail design and improvement; natural resource protection.

The Signage & Mapping Manager works closely with the following KT team members:
Supervised, supported, and evaluated by the Trails Director, who reports directly to the KT Executive Director.
Works alongside the KT Trail Crew, KT Membership & Experience Director, KT Welcome Center Staff, Facility & Equipment Manager, Director of Communication & Education, and KT Volunteers.

Core Job Responsibilities
Signage & Mapping Responsibilities
Maintain a high-quality work standard with complete commitment to the mission of KTA. 
Develop and create appropriate trail signage and maps such as informational, event, directional, marketing, trail data, etc. and ensure all maps and signs are in place, visible, and accurate throughout the system.
Assist in the development and management of various KT mapping platforms and applications.
Work with the Trails Director to define data needs, project requirements, required outputs, or to develop applications. Work with the Trails Director to define data needs, project requirements, including document and record specific KTA Trails Crew accomplishments.
Conduct research to locate and obtain existing databases.
Help gather, analyze, and integrate spatial data and determine how best the information can be displayed using GIS.
Compile geographic data from a variety of sources including censuses, field observation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and existing maps.
Operate and maintain GIS system hardware and software.
Responsible for reviewing, submitting invoices to the Trails Director
Collaborates with the Trails Director to prepare and implement an annual budget.
Work collaboratively with other staff at KT, encompassing the organization’s mission and core values.

Trail Crew Leadership Responsibilities (when assigned and based on experience)
Carry out supervisory responsibilities of seasonal Trail Crew staff including: interviewing and training employees; assigning and directing work; evaluating performance; and addressing staff concerns and resolving problems.
Maintain the safest working environment and adhere to the KTA standard for quality trail construction, maintenance, stewardship, and natural resource protection with complete commitment to the mission of KTA under direct consultation with the Trails Director.
Assistance with trail design and assess trail design issues and coordinate projects to mitigate and/or enhance the trails at the appropriate level.
Ensure that all KTA projects meet or exceed standards established by KTA Trails Director and KTA Trails Advisory Committee.
Ensure winter trails are kept groomed on a regular basis when applicable.
Aiding in the coordination & logistics of Volunteer Work Projects as needed.
Assist in the proper care and use of facilities, tools, supplies, vehicles, and equipment. 
Maintain and foster positive working relations in the local and regional community.
Active member of KT management team.
Supplemental duties/responsibilities to support other KTA operations/functions/events as needed.

Desired Qualifications/Requirements/Skills: 
Interest in multi-use/non-motorized recreational trails, particularly mountain biking.
Bachelor's degree in recreation, natural resource management, environmental studies or related field preferred. 
Expertise with Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and strong understanding of various mapping & graphic design software such as Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, QGIS & ArcGIS.
Proven outside manual labor, landscaping experience, and/or trail maintenance/construction. 
Experience using a variety of trail building tools and equipment.
Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks.
Ability to work as a team member.
First Aid and Wilderness Responder Certifications preferred.
Experience working with customers and volunteers.
Ability to work cooperatively to perform outdoor work, while maintaining a good attitude, in rough terrain in a variety of summer weather conditions. Capacity to adjust to change.
Proven trail construction and management skills, including coordination and communication with state agencies and other organizations, motivation and evaluation of personnel.
Strong leadership skills.
Proven people skills, with an ability to work with a wide variety of ages, experience and professions.
Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks.
Ability to work as a team member.
The ability to work occasional weekends and possible travel is required.
First Aid and Wilderness Responder Certifications preferred.
Experience working with customers and volunteers.
Experience in or exposure to a small non-profit work environment.

Physical Requirements 
Be able to both work in an office setting (computer skills, etc.) and to execute job responsibilities.
Ability to conduct strenuous field work and be able to lift and carry heavy loads up to 50 pounds. 
Occasionally able to reach, stretch, climb, balance, crouch and stoop.
Ability to withstand a variety of outdoor weather conditions.

Benefits
Year-round exempt salaried position with a salary range of $40,000- $45,000, depending upon qualifications and experience.
Work schedule of 40 hours/week; generally 8am to 4pm, Monday through Friday. Schedule can vary depending on the season. Some weekends are required. Eligible for holidays, vacation, special leave.
