The Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation department administers the County's park and recreation programs; operates and maintains the 28 diverse developed parks; and works with cities, special park districts contiguous counties and the State of California to develop complimentary park and recreation programs. Its mission is to provide, protect and preserve regional parklands for the enjoyment, education and inspiration of this and future generations.
The Parks Program Coordinators (PPC) for County of Santa Clara Parks and Recreation support different specialized programs.
The Parks Trails Program PPC, leads the Trails Program, including project management, responsibility for coordinating and managing the staff, volunteers, and contractors who perform skilled and semi-skilled work in the design, layout, condition assessment, maintenance, construction, and reconstruction of natural surface trails throughout the Santa Clara County Parks system. This position is also responsible for the Trail Program coordination with local, state, and regional agencies, and with other Parks programs to optimize the trail user’s experience while protecting environmental resources.
The required knowledge and abilities are attained through training and experience equivalent to possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Park Management, Environmental Science, Agricultural Science, Agricultural/Farm Business Operations, or a related field, and two (2) years of experience coordinating or leading a program, for a public or private recreation service provider.
Note: Specialized program knowledge may be required in addition to required experience when it can be demonstrated that: 1) it is an absolute necessity for the successful operation of the program (s); 2) that the PPC will be held accountable for the specialized knowledge. One (1) year of the required experience must have been in the field of specialization
AND
Possession of a California Driver’s License prior to appointment and the ability to qualify for and maintain a County Driver’s Permit.
• Possession of valid Advanced First Aid and CPR certificates issued by the American Red Cross before completion of the probationary period;
• Must wear prescribed uniform and use proper safety clothing and equipment;
• Must be able to work nights, weekends, holidays or other irregular hours and adapt to changing work load requirements and customer demands;
• Must be able to occasionally lift, carry, push and pull supplies weighing up to sixty (60) pounds.
• Must be able to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time
• Must be able to stoop, bend, and reach, grasp and manipulate small objects with hands.
