Job Title: Summer Trail Crew Leader

Job Description: Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA) is seeking a Summer Trail Crew Leader who loves working with people and shares CFPA’s commitment to trail stewardship and volunteerism. The Crew Leader will primarily work outdoors leading CFPA’s Summer Trail Crew in building and maintaining the Blue-Blazed Hiking Trails in Connecticut. 

Duties and Responsibilities
Train, motivate and lead Summer Trail Crew members to complete a variety of trail projects including maintenance, repairs and new construction.
Establish a safe, fun and inclusive working environment for the crew.
Coordinate trail projects and logistics with CFPA’s Field Coordinator. 
Maintain trail tools, vehicles and equipment for safe use.
Live and contribute to camp life during 3 week-long spikes. Oversee meal planning and camp preparations.
Ensure all technical work is to standard, including tread construction, blazing, drainage structures, and construction of steps, turnpike and puncheon.
Positively represent CFPA mission, programs and membership in all interactions with volunteers, trail users, landowners, property managers, and others.
Manage project paperwork and administrative duties as necessary.
GPS completed trail relocations.
Assist CFPA Trails staff with development of project calendar and project promotion.
Lead volunteer work parties as needed. 
Report all incidents affecting the safety, health, and well‐being of volunteers or crew members.
Provide digital photo documentation of project progress and volunteer engagement.
Other responsibilities as required.
Follow all CDC and State-mandated Covid-19 guidelines and protocols.

Schedule 
The Trail Crew Leader is a temporary, contract position starting May 3, 2021 and continuing to mid- September 2021 (negotiable). The work schedule during the Crew season will be Monday- Friday. 

Preferred Job Skills, Abilities, and Experience
Demonstrated experience working in an outdoor setting.
Demonstrated leadership ability.
Familiarity with CT’s state parks & forests.
Demonstrated skills in trail maintenance and construction.
Strong interpersonal skills to ensure a fun, safe and quality crew experience.
Experience and demonstrated ability to work with people of diverse races, ages, genders, abilities and economic backgrounds.
Ability to work independently and contribute to a team effort.
Ability to remain calm and manage emergency situations.
Ability to work in an outdoor environment including hiking and backpacking at least 5 miles daily in a variety of terrain.
WFA or WFR certification and CPR certification
Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a truck or van on highways and dirt roads.
Reliable personal vehicle.
Availability from May to September.
A strong commitment to CFPA’s mission.

Compensation
The Crew Leader will be paid $560/week. Payment will be issued biweekly. Mileage to worksites will be reimbursed at the current rate of $0.560/mile. While on spike, crew leader meals and camping gear will be provided.

Supervisor
The Crew Leader will be supervised by CFPA’s Trails Program Field Coordinator.

Eligibility/ Application Requirements
