COMBA’s vision is world-class mountain bike experiences in Colorado’s central Front Range. Each year, we organize, train and lead volunteers from the region in focused efforts for trail building, stewardship and restoration targeting a variety of multi-use trail projects on federal, state, county, and city lands. The Seasonal Crew Leader will work and lead in pursuit of natural surface trail restoration and optimization to provide the best possible trails in our area. 

Utilizing hand tools and machinery, COMBA volunteers employ skills in trail design, layout, construction and maintenance to create and maintain community outdoor recreation resources. The crews are specifically focused on optimizing trails for sustainability and visitor experience, and habitat protection. Volunteer crews are focused on low impact, excellent work with maximum efficiency.

We are passionate about trail excellence. We are deployed to create more and better trails for the community. With a massive backlog of non-motorized trail maintenance, COMBA’s volunteers are on a mission to refine, restore and recreate our trails.

PRIMARY POSITION DUTIES AND GOALS
The Seasonal Crew Leader must be self-directed and self-motivated to perform the following ongoing tasks in directing the efforts of our volunteers:
• Volunteer coordination - organize, schedule, train/educate, and lead volunteer work days
• Partnership liaison - connect with partner organizations to arrange training, shared trail work days and set up corporate scheduling
• Tool maintenance - maintain tools, tool storage and tool replacement needs.
• Support COMBA Crew Leaders and Leads - coordinate and connect with volunteer leads to assist them in scheduling and conducting trail work
• Grow volunteer program - build a volunteer leadership group and train volunteers for leadership roles
o Support the Volunteer Pathway 
1. Novice or occasional digger
2. Crew Leader
3. Trail Expert or Specialist (like SWOT team)
4. Trails Team Lead
o Celebrate volunteers - Take part in celebrations for accomplishments and successes with volunteers. Identify standouts.
• Coordinate other trail programs such as Dig N Ride and Corporate Days
• Coordinate volunteer scheduling in Sign Up Genius and calls for vols

Leadership
● Mentor, lead and serve alongside a crew of 4-6 crew members in all day-to-day activities, on the project site and around camp.
● Set goals for the team and drive for maximum output and efficiency working within the guidelines of safety and fun. 
● Educate, encourage and elevate crew members.
● Support the physical and emotional wellbeing of the crew members.
● Complete daily and weekly detailed documentation of crew service and activities. 
● Coordinate projects and logistics with COMBA and partners.
● Report regularly to the Trails Program Director.
● Conduct routine safety audits to uphold the COMBA risk management safety standards.
● Adhere to and enforce rules and regulations as specified by COMBA.
● Oversee project management, tool care and use, and safety.

Project Management & Implementation
● Implement up to a 10-hour workday and ensure professionalism is always maintained.
● Delegation of project work & empower crew to complete projects with excellence.
● Manage the on-the-ground quality of project work.
● Think critically to resolve issues and solve problems.
● Effectively coordinate logistics with project partners, crew and COMBA Team Leads.

Risk Management
● Analyze, manage and inform on hazardous conditions and crew health.
● Exhibit strong situational awareness & promote a culture of safety paramount ensuring use of PPE.
● Transport crew and equipment safely in vehicles, where applicable.

Administration
● Meet all deadlines for documentation-timesheet recording, work goal success, incident reports.
● Record (quantify and qualify) all project related outcomes and deliverables.
● Photograph team at work, before/after photos and accomplishments to support COMBA communications and grant reporting.

Minimum Qualifications:
● Passion to commit fully to the program and its mission, values and vision.
● Trail Building experience and mountain bike-oriented trail building experience.
● Ability to effectively manage all aspects of crew life and production within a 40-hour work week.
● Flexibility, adaptability, and capacity to work in a fluid, changing work environment.
● Desire to learn and be a part of a dynamic community of peer leaders.
● Must be adaptive, patient and able to maintain a positive perspective throughout. 
● Physically fit, able to work efficiently for long days, lift often up to 50lbs, withstand adverse weather, and hike up to 5 miles with a 40lb. pack.
● High school diploma, have a clean driving record, and a current driver’s license.
● Desire to work on a variety of conservation-based projects.
● Strong time-management skills and excel in working independently and in a group.
● Minimum of in-person or online first aid course and CPR (provided upon hiring).

Preferred Qualifications:
● Experience with leading a professional trail building crew or conservation corp.
● Experience in servant leadership and/or coaching. 
● Experience teaching On-the-Job Training and education.
● Facilitation and team building experience. 
● Strong time management efficiency and detailed planning skills.
● Background in hard-driving, goal-oriented, or accomplishment-focused positive mindset.
● Skilled at conflict resolution.
● Leadership with young adults.
● College graduate with focus on environmental, outdoor leadership, or construction.
● Have medical certification in (WFA, WEMT, WFR, or similar) and CPR.
● Endurance sports, outdoor sports or work background - cross fit, mountain biking, trail running, hiking, backpacking, cross country skiing, climbing, mountaineering, hunting, construction, landscaping, surveying, excavation, farming, etc.
● Expertise in rockwork, carpentry, and heavy equipment operation.

Pay: Starting pay $22-27 per hour based on experience
Benefits: Uniform shirt and all tools provided. On the job training and any needed certifications.
