Job Title: Trails Specialist

Job Description: The Trails Specialist assists the Trails Development Manager with planning and fieldwork duties in relation to the management of the park district’s natural resource trail system.

This position is headquartered at Ohio & Erie Canal Management Center, but will report directly to various job sites.

Regular and predictable attendance is expected and required. All Cleveland Metroparks employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
Performs field work, research and administrative functions in a responsible manner.
Coordinates with park volunteers, advocacy groups, and the Trails Division to standardize and implement required seasonal maintenance cycles on the park district’s natural surface trails; identify, prioritize, and implement general improvements for projects for natural surface trails; installs, monitors and replaces trail way finding and user etiquette signage as necessary on natural surface trails.
Oversees volunteer monitoring program to communicate trail closures to the public.
Assists in preparing trail planning processes including generating estimates, maps, and reports for use by the Trails Development Manager, trail work crews, and volunteer groups.
Uses established methods to complete evaluation reports for finished trail projects.
Provides crew member coverage for general trail projects and construction projects as needed.
Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred in environmental science, ecology, landscape architecture, planning, or a related field from an accredited college or university; previous trail building experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. 
Must possess a valid driver’s license under the laws of the State of Ohio.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
Management skills and strong business acumen, including problem solving, vision, ability to manage multiple programs and meet deadlines, collaboration, leadership, decision making and ability to analyze diverse facts and develop clear and concise reports and recommendations.
Ability to work cooperatively with others.
Proficiency in software programs including all Microsoft Office programs.
Mature professional attitude and considerable discretion, including ability to manage confidential information.
Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.

Wage: $11.00 per hour
