Job Title: Team Coordinator, Excelsior

Job Description: The Student Conservation Association (SCA), a national force of youth conservation volunteers, has an exciting opportunity in our Program Department. America’s #1 youth conservation service organization seeks an experienced, quality oriented Team Coordinator in our SUNY Sullivan Campus, New York office.

This Team Coordinator will supervise a team of 8-10 corps members as part of a Conservation Stewardship team. The Team Coordinator will be focused on managing team projects that help improve the infrastructure of buildings and lands while also improving sustainability. Projects include, without limitation, weatherization, historic preservation, improving energy efficiency by installing lighting retrofits and solar panels, basic carpentry, trail maintenance, invasive species management, and masonry work.

SCA Excelsior Corps works in partnership with the NYS Governor's Office, the NYS Commission on National and Community Service (AmeriCorps), the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, the NYS Environmental Facilities Corps and the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. While the program is based on the SUNY Sullivan Campus, this position will complete projects throughout the state of New York.


Roles and Responsibilities:

Crew Manager Functions -
Lead and manage a crew of eight - ten young adults, ages 18-28;
Lead and manage work outcomes and crew dynamics in a positive and successful manner;
Facilitate team operations including; food planning, tools and equipment, and vehicles;
Actively manage project/member risk in accordance with SCA policies to maintain a safe work environment;
Complete time logs and time entry, expense/receipt tracking and other mandatory administrative requirements on a timely basis.

Technical Advisor Functions - 
Supervise and assist the work skills training of corps members;
Manage the quality and technique of the work performed;
Promote leadership development within team and evaluate success and potential.

Partnership Representative Functions -
Take direction from SCA staff to help manage relationships with agency partners;
Work collaboratively with agencies on program logistics;
Ensure successful and timely completion of projects and administrative tasks.

Program Administrator Functions -
Complete time logs and enter/upload time for self and crew members on a daily basis;
Complete expense and receipt recording as required by SCA policies and procedures;
Assist SCA Excelsior AmeriCorps Teams Manager to complete required program/work reporting and documentation;
Assist SCA Excelsior AmeriCorps Teams Manager in budget management and reconciliation;
Assist SCA Excelsior AmeriCorps Teams Manager and Education and Outreach Coordinator with member recruitment and trainings;
Ensure compliance with all SCA Risk Management policies and procedures;
Represent SCA in a positive and professional manner.


Qualifications
-Minimum of 21 years of age
-Previous invasive species management experience preferred
-Previous trail construction and maintenance experience preferred
-Prior experience supervising young adults in an outdoor setting
-Excellent communication and leadership skills, strong work ethic required
-Self-starter ability to work independently and as part of a team
-Able to carry heavy loads up to 50 pounds and be able to work in outdoor environment exposed to the elements including camping and hiking for extended periods of time. Up to 5-10 days per hitch
-Ability to meet SCA's criminal and other background check requirements
-Valid driver's license and MVR that meets SCA standards required
-Must have personal vehicle, mileage will be reimbursed at no less than IRS published rates
-Have working knowledge of safely operating power and hand-tools
-Chainsaw experience and certification preferred
-Rigging/Grip hoist experience preferred
-Completion of SCA Work Skills Session preferred
-Must be able to travel 100% of the time for the duration of the position
