Job Title: BCC Trails Program Crew Member

Job Description: The Boulder Climbing Community is looking to hire professional individuals for its Trail Program for the 2023 field season. This position requires a passion for the outdoors, proven trail-building skills, conservation and stewardship education experience, excellent communication skills, volunteer coordination experience and team collaboration. 

Location
This position will be based out of Boulder, CO, with work in the surrounding areas. Some overnight remote work will be required.

Position Goals
Develop advanced trail building, restoration, quarrying, rigging, and project management skills.
Develop leadership skills to train, supervise and/or manage other staff and volunteers.
Actively contribute to scope of work and project strategy discussions with BCC staff by providing ideas, feedback, and questions.
Actively engage and educate the outdoor community about BCC’s work via volunteer opportunities and events by working alongside and supervising volunteers, leading safety discussions, and teaching trail skills.

Position Responsibilities 
Work alongside land management staff, fellow trail crew members and volunteers to create sustainable climbing related structures. 
Lift, transport, position materials into stable structures following specifications established by the land manager and BCC staff.
Safely & efficiently work with a variety of tools including rigging equipment, power tools, rock hammers & chisels, rock bars, hammer drill and feathers & wedges, chainsaw and maintain equipment conditions. 
Assess, train and supervise volunteers on safe and efficient techniques for material gathering, transport and construction into permanent quality structures. 
Work closely & follow directions from the BCC Trail Coordinators. 
Be available to work on a regular schedule, as determined by the BCC Stewardship Director and Trail Coordinators.
Interact with community members in a polite and professional manner to promote the mission of BCC and land managers. 
Create and ensure a collaborative work environment by maintaining consistent communication with all parties involved. 
Represent the BCC at community events; communicating our mission, all of the BCC programs and how these programs fulfill the mission. 
Perform an average of 8 hours of outreach, education and other tasks per month. 

Desired Qualifications 
Moderate to advanced knowledge and experience in trail construction and restoration with an emphasis on intensive projects, stonework, stone quarrying, rigging, and material management.
Moderate to advanced experience in rope work and anchor building.
Experience training, supervising and/or managing other staff and volunteers.
Keen judgment and experience managing risk. 
Possesses a very strong work ethic, drive for a quality finished product and strong problem-solving skills. 
An ability to work in both a team and independent setting.
A high level of fitness: Hiking with weight and on varied terrain, strong cardiovascular fitness, ability to lift up to and exceeding 50 lbs on a continual basis. 
Extreme flexibility, adaptability, creativity and ability to multitask and think quickly on one’s feet. 
Ability to learn and master new skills on a continual basis.  
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.  
Passion for people, the outdoors, education, and stewardship coupled with experience working with, supervising and motivating volunteers. 
● Must have reliable transportation and ability to commute to a variety of job sites within the Front Range. 

Start Date/Season/Schedule 
Start date: April 11th, 2023
The season is scheduled from early April through the middle of November 2023 and is based predominantly in the Golden/Boulder area. 
Some remote work will be required. 
Four 10 hour workdays per week: 7am to 5pm. Workdays vary upon the week and 1-2 weekend work days are anticipated monthly 
30 to 40 hour work weeks dependent upon weather conditions and project requirements. 

Benefits/Compensation 
Hourly Salary of $20.00-23.00/hr depending on experience level. 
One week-40 hours PTO
Field Expenses compensated during overnight projects: workday food per diem and mileage reimbursement.
Outdoor industry pro deals.
