Job Title: Natural Resources Manager

Job Description: The Bend Park and Recreation District is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our leadership team as the Natural Resource Manager located in Bend, OR. This position will be responsible for the management of the natural resources program including open spaces, trails, waterfowl and wildlife programs, forestry programs, fuels reduction, noxious weeds, and natural areas restoration projects. This position negotiates and administers contracts, grants, and cooperative agreements with federal, state, and local governments and community organizations

A day in the life: 
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following

-Develops, implements and oversees natural resources programs in accordance with the district's Strategic Plan including vegetation management, fuels reduction, wildlife habitat improvement and restoration, open space, trails, wildlife management, noxious weeds management, and related issues.
-Develops or participates in the development and promotion of natural resource and environmental educational and public information programs.
-Supervises, coordinates, and directs the work of the full time and seasonal natural resources staff in meeting the districts natural resources goals.
-Works with other agencies and citizen groups to accomplish district natural resources goals.
-Assists in reviewing design, drawings and specifications on parks, trails and open space development projects.
-Prepares and analyzes technical and administrative reports, grants, statements and correspondence related to natural resources for staff, managers, directors, other organizations, and Board of Directors; maintains a variety of records.
-Researches, evaluates and prepares grant applications.
-Develops, implements and reviews Natural Resources Management plans for parks, trails, natural areas, and open spaces.
-Prepares budgets for the natural resources program; monitors expenditures to remain within established budgetary constraints.
-Responds to public concerns; maintains positive public relations.
-Organizes and conducts public meetings relating to land and resource management issues.
-Assists with the recruitment and supervision of volunteers; organizes and directs volunteers in coordination with staff resources to best meet the needs of the district.

What you'll need for success: 

Extensive Knowledge of: 
-Natural resources; forestry; horticulture of open space and public land management; native and non-native wildlife; management of noxious weeds abatement; 
-Occupational hazards and related safety precautions; 
-Contracting, record keeping and budgeting; 
-Federal, state and local laws and regulations; 
-Principles and practices of natural resources ecosystem management including conservation, protection and use; 
-Design and maintenance of urban and park trails; 
-Recognizing and resolving trail issues including negotiation and conflict management techniques; pesticides and other invasive plants, insects, diseases, control methods.

What we're looking for: 

Bachelor's Degree in natural resources, forestry, environmental science, wildlife biology, or related field; AND
Three (3) years progressively responsible experience in natural resources management; AND
Two (2) years of supervisory experience; OR
Any satisfactory combination of education, experience, and training.

License: 
Valid driver's license is required
