Additionally, this position provides support to the AmeriCorps program, both in the field and in the office.

Specific responsibilities:

-Lead up to 10 adult volunteers on frontcountry and backcountry trail stewardship projects, between 1-5 days long, in locations such as the White Mountains, Acadia National Park, Baxter State Park
-Practice, exemplify, and teach quality technical trailbulding hand skills. Projects will include bog bridge construction, native stonework and timber work, trail layout, and trail maintenance.
-Coordinate custom crew availability, plan trail work projects and maintain AMC trail work standards, with the help of the Program Supervisor and other AMC staff
-Communicate by email and phone with volunteer participants well in advance of the arrival date, as well as any follow-up
-Create and compile accurate and thorough project reports after each event and enter them into the online database. Track project progress and report status to the Program Supervisor.
-Participate in group check-ins, at least twice a month or as needed, with the Program Supervisor and other AMC Volunteer Trails staff
-Assist with scouting, field support of other programs, and recording & reporting work
-Perform site visits and logistical support and purchase supplies for AMC-Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) youth crew, an 8-week day program
-Work with JAG leaders to build project-specific skills and best support the program as needed
-Foster a spirit of cooperation, safety, teamwork, responsible stewardship, and fun while working with volunteer crews
-Plan menus, order or purchase food, and prepare meals for volunteer trail crew participants, up to groups of 9
-Serve as the primary responder/coordinator in the event of a backcountry emergency
-Emphasize safety and low-impact camping methods in the backcountry
-Assist with maintenance of tools, equipment and Camp Dodge facility as needed
-Drive 12-passenger vans as needed
