Summary Description

Founded in 1876, the Appalachian Mountain Club promotes the protection, enjoyment, and understanding of the mountains, forests, waters, and trails of America’s Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

The AMC White Mountain Trail Crew, established in 1919, is one of the oldest professional trail crews in the United States. Focusing primarily on heavy reconstruction of hiking trails in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and Western Maine, trail crews work to protect and restore natural resources and the environment through high quality trail work. The Field Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and oversight of the crews working in the field as well as assisting in the planning of future trail projects. The 8- person crew is made up of conservation-minded and energetic people with diverse backgrounds. After training and early season trail clearing, crews of four to six people spend five days each week working on reconstruction projects. Crews pack in all tools, food, and equipment needed for camp and work. This position offers a unique opportunity to live in the backcountry of the White Mountains while working in remote sections alongside fellow crew members.

The crew is based at AMC's Camp Dodge Trails Center where housing is provided when the crew is not working in the woods. Food, tools, and group camping equipment are provided. Hours vary within a 40-hour work week.

The AMC is a member of the 21 Century Conservation Corps and is a proud partner of The Corps Network. The Corps Network is the National Association of Service and Conservation Corps. The AMC is one of 130 Corps across the country that provides young adults and veterans the opportunity to serve our country through projects on public lands and in rural and urban communities.
