Job Title: Professional Trail Crew Member

Job Description: e Adirondack Mountain Club’s professional trail crew conducts maintenance and rehabilitates backcountry trails in both the Adirondack and Catskill parks. Using basic hand tools, a wide variety of trail stabilization structures are constructed using native materials. The crew camps for a week at a time nearby work locations in the back country. Training is provided prior to the beginning of the field season.

Qualifications and Responsibilities:Applicants should have experience using trail building tools and be familiar with trail reconstruction/maintenance techniques. Candidates should have the desire to be both physically and mentally challenged while working in the out-of-doors in extreme conditions, to include but not limited to rain, snow, sleet, gales, hot and cold temperatures, insects and lots of mud! Candidates should have the desire to work on solo trail projects and as a team member on a 4-6 person crew.

Applicants should have experience backpacking with ability to carry a heavy load for a long distance. Crew members share in the packing of group camping gear, tools and food, along with personal gear to the various project sites and assist in food preparation. Crew members are responsible for maintaining trail tools, equipment and the trail cabin facility to the highest standard.
