Job Title: Mountain Bike Trail Specialist / Outdoor Recreation Manager

Job Description: Job Summary
4R Ranch Vineyards & Winery (www.4rwines.com) is a working 1,132 acre ranch and destination winery which offers onsite winery tasting and consumption at our WindShed tasting room, private events, camping, a bed and breakfast, and hiking and mountain biking. We have built approximately 10 miles of mountain biking trails and are looking for the right person to manage and promote the mountain bike trail and mountain biking events. We foster a positive and pro-active culture at the intersection of recreation, travel, and community. 

We are seeking a Mountain Bike Trail Specialist / Outdoor Recreation Manager to support and expand our trail and to help manage our trails and campsites. This person will play a key role in trail design, construction and maintenance projects. 

Time Commitment: Full time
Salary: Based on skillset and experience. ($17-20/hr)
Reports to: Owners

Trail Stewardship (50%)
• Trail construction and maintenance on 4R trail projects, including mowing and weed eating, trail reshaping, management of weeds, and cleanup of debris
• Assist with planning and management of volunteer trailwork events
• Ensure use of best practices for all trail projects
• Inspect and maintain 4R tools and equipment to ensure that they are clean, organized, and in working order
• Maintain safe jobsite conditions and follow and enforce 4R safety guidelines for volunteers and project partners
• Work closely with owners to coordinate and communicate project logistics and fulfill project expectations
• Track and record work progress and volunteer time in 4R trail work spreadsheet
• Perform trails assessment to assess maintenance needs
• Assist with project planning and design

4R Ranch Event Support (30%)
• Assist with logistics at 4R biking events and management of races including the “Cork & Cog” Race, gravel grinder and bikepacking events sponsored by outside vendors and volunteer appreciation events
• Assist with logistics at winery events including weddings and wine club member events

4R Ranch Campsite Management (20%)
• Maintain Campsites, including mowing, weedeating, and making sure all infrastructure and facilities are in working order
• Respond to Hipcamp booking requests
• Interface with campers

Required Qualifications
• Outstanding work ethic with desire and ability to perform challenging labor 8-10 hours/day & 40+ hours/week. 
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision after the initial training period
• Ability to maneuver and operate in a mixture of office and field work. 
• Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.
• Passion for creating high quality trail experiences.
• Demonstrated knowledge of sustainable trail construction, maintenance and design, including progressive mountain bike oriented techniques and traditional practices.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Excellent time management, organizational and written and oral communication skills.
• Ability and desire to work with volunteers 
• Ability to respectfully and patiently work with a variety of volunteers of varying ages (14 y/o-75 y/o) and with a diverse range of backgrounds and skill levels
• Ability to effectively accomplish project goals 
• Excellent people skills, a sense of humor, and a positive, professional attitude
• Off-road and trailer driving proficiency
• At least18 years of age
• Have a high school diploma or GED
• Department of Motor Vehicle- acceptable motor vehicle record; valid driver's license
• Criminal Background Check

Physical requirements:

• The ability to lift 80 pound objects from the ground regularly
• The ability to perform physically demanding work with hand tools for an 8-10 hour workday, which can include long periods of standing or walking on rough, uneven ground, bending, crouching, and stooping
• The ability to operate tools and equipment like mowers, trimmers, trail tools such as rakes/shovels/hoes, etc.
• The ability to sit for long periods of time while operating equipment
• The ability to respond quickly to sounds
• The ability to hike long distances and move safely over steep, uneven and/or slippery terrain
• The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations
• The ability to work in extreme weather
• The ability to wear personal protective gear correctly most of the day

Desired Qualifications
• Experience building and maintaining trails or other relevant work experience in the natural resources field
• Chainsaw use certification or experience operating a chainsaw
• Ability to use Word and Excel
• Proficiency with GIS software
• Experience operating a range of equipment including mini excavators and tractors
• First Aid training
