Project Title: Peerless Pier Building for a Bridge-Minnesota

Project Description: We seek a contractor capable of building concrete-and-timber piers (abutments) for a bridge on the nationally renowned Superior Hiking Trail (SHT) in northeastern Minnesota. The piers were designed by the Minnesota Dept. of Natural Resources and the style is common in the state parks of this region.
Making this project more intriguing is its remote location 2.5 miles from the nearest road. Building crew would need to camp out on-site. Delivery of workers, tools and belongings can be by helicopter. There is no easy road access to this site -- even by ATV.
This bridge is much-anticipated and long-awaited by SHT users and will be a showcase project for whoever takes it on. The project does NOT include the construction of the bridge itself.

Additional Project Bid Information: The bridge (constructing the bridge itself is NOT part of this RFP) will be a 55-foot long fiberglass bridge.
Pier construction will involve the use of timbers, cement, hardware, rebar (some of which must be bent to specifications ahead of time). ALL materials, including water, will be flown in by helicopter, including a cement mixer and generator, and any other heavy equipment the contractor deems necessary. (No vehicles.)
A fully developed construction plan for the bridge and piers, generated by Minnesota DNR, will be made available upon request.
Our hope is to build the piers in September 2020, with the possibility of finishing the bridge soon after. Most every regulatory hurdle has been cleared.
We understand that the remote nature of this project and (from what we hear) the difficulty of the design may make this project unappealing. However, this project will be watched carefully, and applauded loudly once done, by tens of thousands of people who use the Superior Hiking Trail. Getting a bridge back at this site will make tie together a loop trail that’s been disconnected for over 5 years. Your company will be lauded for its audacity and creativity to take on a project of this scope and importance.
