Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC)

Projects Coordinator

Job Description

Location: Greater Boston, MA

Season dates: April 4-September 16, 2016

Position Summary: The Bay Circuit Trail Volunteer Projects Coordinator develops and supports AMC's Trails Volunteer Programs in eastern Massachusetts primarily along the Bay Circuit Trail (BCT). The Project Coordinator is a senior seasonal position with the AMC’s Bay Circuit Trail Volunteer Program. The Project Coordinator is responsible for identifying and assigning work projects for AMC staff-led BCT volunteer trail crew programming in partnership with BCT land managers and volunteers. Delivering and leading programs, independently or together with other AMC trails staff, is also a significant responsibility. This person must be willing to work some weekends (more often in summer) and have a flexible work schedule. While responsibilities are largely field-based, the Project Coordinator works out of the AMC Boston office about 1-3 days/week depending on the time of year. Reliable personal transportation required for commuting to projects sites across eastern MA on the BCT, with mileage reimbursed. Project Coordinator must secure his/her own housing and meals. The BCT is a 230+ mile permanent recreation trail network and greenway corridor extending through Eastern Massachusetts, linking parks and open spaces in Greater Boston from Plum Island to the Kingston/Duxbury Bay. Much of the trail is co-aligned with existing trails through local trail networks. To a large degree, it is a multi-use trail allowing hiking, trail running, biking, horse-back riding, and cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Due to its urban/suburban location, the trail provides close-to-home recreation and connects multitudes of public lands flanking the trail.
